Recreation Bluestone State Park is located adjacent to the 2,000-acre Bluestone Lake, water-related activities are accented at the park. The lake provides excellent fishing for bluegill, large and smallmouth bass, hybrid bass, striped bass, crappie and catfish. Boating and water-skiing round out the lake activities. The state record in length and in weight for striped bass was caught at Bluestone Lake – the record length for striped bass in WV is currently 40.88 inches and record weight 29.56 pounds. Boats and canoes rentals are available at the marina. See rates below. Throughout the summer season, a wide variety of sports and special events are featured. At the park's main office, equipment for croquet, shuffleboard, and horseshoes may be rented. In addition, special weekly programs are provided by the park naturalist for your entertainment. Included in such events are nature hikes, movies, slide shows, volleyball and softball games, wiener roasts, and other family oriented activities. A swimming pool and a children wading area are open Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend. The pool is open on weekends only after mid August. There is a nominal fee for swimming. Cabin guests may enjoy year round swimming privileges at Pipestem Resorts' indoor pool. The park is laced with a number of intriguing hiking trails. Some of these afford panoramic views of Bluestone's picturesque lake and mountainous terrain. In winter, downhill skiing is available at nearby WinterPlace Resort, located 23 miles from the park. |
